SURVIVING WITH CLASS: HIGH SCHOOL DURING THE 2020 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

SURVIVING WITH CLASS: HIGH SCHOOL DURING THE 2020 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

The coronavirus pandemic or covid19 how some people put has to be one of the worst experiences I have ever been through. It absolutely sucks and I hate it. I feel so sorry for the seniors. It really breaks my heart spending the rest of my school year over the internet. Although the coronavirus pandemic and staying in quarantine stinks something positive has come out of it. This is the realization of how much staring at a screen can suck, basically how controlling technology can be. I am definitely going to recover over summer and read some books. I also miss school and following schedules. It breaks my heart not being able to spend the end of the year activities with my teachers. I love my family but I miss spending time with others. I know I am exaggerating but I feel like a prisoner in my own house, my house isn’t fun. It’s comfortable that’s all. Not seeing my teachers in a way adds more stress to me because most of friends are all like “Tanya you don’t have to feel about not turning it on time” but I do, and I am still super stressed, I won’t rest.

FAHRENHEIT 451 ESSAY

Personal connection isn't really in someone's mind on a day to day basis, yet it is one of the most important aspects we have going on in our lives. In Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451, it speaks a lot about the loss of personal connection. The main character, Guy Montag, realizes this loss and the value of connecting with others.
In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, the government has made it illegal to read, let alone own any books. The people in this society have been morphed into soul-less bodies who are interdependent on technology. Clarisse McClellan, another character, helps Montag view the world they live in a different way. In the novel people don't read, share ideas, or value the gift of life. Clarisse is someone who is considered to be antisocial in their society all because she loves having meaningful conversations unlike others. People are attempting suicide and it seems normal. It really is heartbreaking. When Montag listens to Clarisse she gives off a sense of presence because their conversations are thought provoking. Clarisse’s whole persona reminds us of a much happier time, when books were being opened. Unlike with Clarisse, when Montag speaks to others he is reminded how bad the loss of books impacts character. People are turning into robots, personal connection has faded.

We can feel this heartbreak in the novel by the way Bradbury uses characterization. Clarisse McClellan is the girl who loves nature and life. Then Guy Montag is a man who follows the rules without questioning. The names are also dramatically different because Guy's name is so ordinary and Clarisse's name is unusual and beautiful. The loss of personal connection can also be seen when in the society’s overdose of technology. Montag’s wife, Mildred, would constantly wear seashells in her ears in order to escape in her own world whenever Montag would come home. They were both married yet they were also two strangers under the same roof.

IT'S COMPLICATED

Montag's reaction was eye opening and really taking it all in if that makes sense. My reaction was really surprised because I was not an ending like this, it is like they were basically waiting this out. It kind of aligns with my experience in dealing with emotionally complex situations.

GIVE US A HAND

About Granger's grandfather description that made an impression on me is that he remembered a lot in detail. His grandfather used his hand to build things, he was a sculptor and it matters to us because it really shows how people aren't like that in the world they live in.

AS WE GROW, WE CHANGE

What makes a character dynamic? I would say that a character that changes the way they think is a dynamic character. Guy Montag is a dynamic character. The first way the character, Guy Montag changes is when he questions himself on his happiness. This happened when Clarisse McClellan asked "are you happy?". The second way Montag changes is when his wife tries to commit suicide and when he called for an emergency. In this situation in the place of professional M.D.s like expected, Montag is surprised to see that emergency operator sent two handymen, he says "We get these cases nine or ten a night. Got so many, starting a few years ago,... You don't need an M.D., case like this; all you need is two handymen, clean up the problem in half an hour. Look". That is when he realized alot of people in that society are wanting to get out. The third way Montag changes is when he witnessed a woman die with her books on a routine call for the firemen. The woman would budge when it came to her books and that was that last straw for Monatg. This character changes because he realizes how bad the world he lives in is. This character's reflect the overall theme and tone of the book because actually living in a world with no books or value of life/living shows us how bad the world can be. This world in the book symbolizes a world with no ideas or inner thoughts.

MURDER JUST BECAUSE

Is there anything in real life that you think can motivate an otherwise peaceful, kind person to murder? Is murder ever justified?

I think something truly heartbreak can motivate an otherwise peaceful, kind person to commit murder. I think murder can be justified, hard to say, I have no clue.

NO GUTS NO GLORY

Yes, I think the Montag's decision to read books was worth the risk because, he is standing for something he believes in.
