LET ME WALK THROUGH THE PEDESTRIAN

Intro:

The story "The Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury is all about a man who takes evening strolls in the future where technology dominates all. The protagonist Leonard Mead, on one casual nightly routine gets stopped by police just because he is out walking. It is really the oddest thing ever, because the cop doesn't seem understand why Leonard is out instead in. The reason Leonard is out becasue he wants to enjoy the fresh air that everyone seems to take for granted.

Plot:

This story takes place ahead of it's time in the year 2053, where apparently it is normal and expected of people to stay attached to a screen the whole day. Leonard Mead takes it upon himself to walk in the evening but later get arrested for looking suspicious. Mead ends up getting questioned by a non-human figure in a police car who doesn't understand the apparent passion for walking outside. The police car just knows that Mr. Mead is out of the norm in that place.

Tone:

Bradbury's tone for this whole story seems to be lightly cheerful, sad, and real. I mention lightly cheerful becasue in the part where Leonard is being interrogated by the police, he attempts to lighten up the mood a by being a bit funny. I mention sad too, because he responds by saying "nobody wanted me", when he was asked if he was married. The last thing I mentioned was being real because this story talks about how technology takes over all and that to me seems like it can legit happen. Living in a society like todays' make me so sad knowing we as a world aren't headed the right direction. (if that makes sense) All people care about now is getting likes, being good-looking, and following trends. It is just a shame.

Character:

The main character, Leonard Mead is a man who seems to love keeping traditions alive. Leonard is the only person in the whole place who acts human. His character does not change through out the whole story, so he is for sure not a developing character. He is also a thoughtful person wouldn't want to wake up the neighborhood dogs, and he really loves nature for what it is.

Conclusion:

The "Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury is a story with multiple emotions. It also gives you a possible sneak peak into our future if we keep doing what we are doing. Stories like these are way ahead of their time and they teach the audience another lesson on how using the write words can maniplate feelings, so basically how powerful our words can be.
