- gatsby tells nick that he had waited till 4 am for daisy to literally turn off the light, and he said nothing had happened between tom and daisy
- nick suggested that gatsby should leave to montreal or atlanta, but gatsby didn't want to because he felt like he just had to be there for daisy, (they "love" eachother so much, well there is obviously more love on his side)
- when they first left eachother (daisy and jay) gatsby strongly felt like he just wasn't himself, he wasn't whole, once he had left for war
- when the gardener interrupts gatsby to tell him that he wants to drain the pool, i'd say that the author interrupts the tense relationship dialogue with a secondary charachter and mention of the pool to really just show how in a way gatsby is more significant than the others
- gatsby is shot by mr. wilson and mr. wilson shoots himself.
- people die for love, gatsby took the blame and died for it, he was innocent

GATSBY CHAPTER 8 NOTES AND THOUGHTS
Monday, February 24, 2020
HAVE TO VERSUS WANT TO VERSUS GET TO
The difference between (1)agreeing to complete something for each other, (2) being told what to do for homework, and (3)exploring what you want to in your own way is that (3) one something you want to do, (2) one is something your forced to do, and (1) one is deciding if you want to keep your word.

GATSBY PROMPTS FURTHER THINKING
Ideas I believe are worth writing about:
- A self-discovery type of idea for an essay prompt, I say this because gatsby is definitely a big character. He is not easy to figure out first glance, Idk I just think writing espeacially about ourselves is important because we are still trying to figure things out.
- Another idea is also talking about the representation of money and it's influence on people, the rich people aren't really the viewed that great.
- We can talk about alot of stuff like power, greed, the american dream, betrayl and how it's all shown in the book.
- We can also talk about what type of person gatsby is and what he represents?
WHAT GATSBY SAYS TO ME?
I think the theme of the book so far is that the american dream can take a long time to achieve.

GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS: CHAPTER 7
- gatsby meets daisy's daughter for the first time (he didn't she really existed)
- He stops having parties because he fired all his employees
- this is where daisy tells gatsby she loved him and tom was shocked
- mr and mrs wilson want to go west
- tom feels like he is losing his wife and his mistress
- tom confronts gatsby about the thing he had with daisy and this is where GATSBY FINALLY TELLS TOM THAT DAISY NEVER LOVED HIM, SHE LOVES GATSBY
- DAISY SAYS SHE IS LEAVING TOM
- myrtle wilson died
- DAISY RAN OVER MYRTLE OUT OF PANICK, AND GATSBY TOLD HER HE WOULD TAKE THE BLAME, (OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- gatsby was eager to wait all night outside daisy's house incase tom gives her trouble about the incident and he doesn't want to leave until she goes to bed (AWW :( . )
- daisy has no backbone, she doesn't make definite desicions
- daisy isn't really the best person, she is not bad or good, and she is just selfish

GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS: CHAPTER 6
- gatsby's real name is james gatz but changed it to jay gatsby
- the picture in gatsby's room is of Dan Cody, gastby worked for him, he was pretty much a man who made it big, he was very wealthy, (after gatsby met him, he fell in love with luxury)
- the real story of jay gatz is that he comes from a not so wealthy start in north dakota, he went to a minnesota college,(he dropped out after 2 weeks) and paid he college from a job as janitor, he didn't like the job it was embarrassing
- alcohol and money figure in the story because after cody's death (he was a heavy drinker), gatsby grew more aware of the dangers of drinking, he became not much a drinker as a result
- the convo with gatsby, tom mr. and mrs. salone, goes okay but we can tell that gatsby is annoyed by tom, tom and the salones aren't being sincere when they invite gatsby, and tom was thrown off when gatsby mentioned daisy, he didn't like that ( he still doesn't know they were a thing back then ) they all don't really seem to enjoy eachothers company
- when tom and daisy get to gatsby's, tom is clearly not enjoying it, he even badmouths gatsby when he is talking to daisy, she defenses gatsby
- gatsby's plan is to recreate the past and moments he had with daisy, he thinks the all his wealth in a way brings daisy back 😔, ( i mean i hope too)
- gatsby is so set on recreating the past but that is just not possible there is a qoute that goes like "things never happen the same way twice" (not qoute from the book) and that's true

NOTES AND THOUGHTS GATSBY CHAPTER 5
- Gatsby is an eager fellow
- Gatsby offers Nick a "confidential" job where he can make the big bucks after he told Nick that he knew he doesn't make much
- Gatsby and Daisy finally met up and they were both super shy
- Gatsby was super nervous to even meet Daisy
- it's been 5 years since daisy and gatsby were together (jay kept track of time)
- Gatsby has really been infatuated with Daisy for quite some time now and he wants everything to be perfect when it comes to her
- there is a moment where nick walks in and sees daisy crying and gatsby's whole self seem to glow
- gatsby lost most of his inherited money during the panic of the war, so it took 3 years to gain the money to buy the house he has
- gatsby mentions how daisy always has a green light that burns all night at the end of the dock (that goes to show how he really pays attention and shows what kind of person he is)
It's super upsetting how Daisy is with Tom and not Jay, it's very clear how she doesn't feel the same way for Tom as she feels for Jay. Also just the thought that Jay has been keeping track of the time he hasn't seen Daisy is so, I don't how to best describe the feeling, but my heart feels heavy. That just goes to show how he feels about her...

HOW YOU KNOW WHAT I KNOW
I can show what I learned about what I read by telling someone about what I got from the Great Gatsby. Like what my favorite parts are so far... We can also see what we got from the book by looking back at our notes. We can also maybe write about it?

NICK'S CARDINAL VIRTUE
Nick's cardinal virtue is basically being honest. This admission changes the way we look at Nick because he just seems to have his morals straight. His ideas are definitly supported by the events we've read so far. I would say he is humble.
I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS.
There are 36 students in my AP Language & Composition, and usaully we all don't get to talk at once. Today we all sat in a circle and talked about some big questions, they way music affects our personality, abortion, adoption, mental illness, and how we are becoming addicted to our phones. I learned that it's hard for minorities to get adopted. A lot of people nowadays (our generation) take mental illness lightly, and that's not right. Abortion is a choice you make, it's your body. We are losing our sense of human interactions because of being addicted to our phones.

MY MOM ON MY BIG QUESTION
* MOM stands for Minute Of Mindfulness
Since my big question is Why does the brain work the way it does; can it work more effectively to make us happy?
In the 6 minutes I dedicated to it I thought of how great it would be to be happy all the time although ofcourse we will be sad every then and there.
I mean they do say people remember better the bad memories from our past as like a self-defense mechanism for the future because bad things will always happen in our life, it's inevitable, sadly. I want to just learn how to we can in a way train ourselves to view life in a brighter light.
I am currently watching videos on related topics that where I got something like that^

NOW IT'S A PARTY / GATSBY
I just read chapter 3 of The Great Gatsby, and here is what I got out of it.
- The rumors that the two girls and Jordan were talking of Gatsby was that he had killed someone once or he was a german spy during the war. I think Gatsby is so mysterious because no one really knows his deal and he seems intending to keep it that way.
- In Gatsby's library, Nick calls the man an owl eyed man because the man doesn't seem to be all there in the moment.
- Nick initially imagine's Gatsby to look like a "florid and corpulent person", florid means complicated and corpulent means overweight.
- Nick finds out that Jordan Baker is an uncurable liar, she is a scam.
- Gatsby and Nick plan to fly a hydroplane the next morning.
- Nick's cardinal virtue is "I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known". I think he mention's this at this point of the book because all people around him aren't, or you can't tell yet. If that makes sense.

MY UN/ FINISHED STORY
So based on today's conversation, a goal I'd want to set myself is to get a work's day done. By this I mainly mean to finish my homework on time and being punctual. I honestly never finish my homework the day I get it because I procastinate, not procastinating is hard even though I know I am doing it...
GATSBY pages 34-43
These are some notes and observation:
- Myrtle is acting like all that because her man has money (she also had second thoughts of her marriage at first)
- Nick feels like an outisder in that setting
- time passed by the bottle of whiskey???
- the sentence is disoriened in page 37 (paperback)
- the authors diction includes frequently the word violent ( or the sense of it in syntax )
- myrtle can't say whatever she wants ( tom hit her because his wife is off limits )
- Tom doesn't care about his wife though
- the author basically drank himself to death by the diction in the text
- contemptuous- being harsh or scournful

WHAT'S IN MY BIG QUESTION FOR ME
Since my big question is Why does the brain work the way it does; can it work more effectively to make us happy? What's in it for me? I would say that I will learn how to live more enlightened of how to live a happier life. Exploring this topic will do exactly that. It would enable me to do something that appeals to me because being happy is the best feeling anyone can have, and that's way I intend to live my life. When I get sad, I'm planning not to stay sad too long. Staying happy is a personal life goal of mine.
