THE PEDESTRIAN ESSAY
One of the hardest things nowadays is finding someone who doesn't know what a screen looks like. Everything in life just needs to have a good and bad side, technology is no exception. The story "The Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury is all about a man who takes evening strolls in the future where technology dominates all. The protagonist Leonard Mead, on one casual nightly routine gets stopped by police just because he is out walking. It is really the oddest thing ever, because the cop doesn't seem understand why Leonard is out instead in. The reason Leonard is out becasue he wants to enjoy the fresh air that everyone seems to take for granted. This story takes place ahead of it's time in the year 2053, where apparently it is normal and expected of people to stay attached to a screen the whole day. Leonard Mead takes it upon himself to walk in the evening but later get arrested for looking suspicious. Mead ends up getting questioned by a non-human figure in a police car who doesn't understand the apparent passion for walking outside. The police car just knows that Mr. Mead is out of the norm in that place. Bradbury's tone for this whole story seems to be lightly cheerful, sad, and real. I mention lightly cheerful becasue in the part where Leonard is being interrogated by the police, he attempts to lighten up the mood a by being a bit funny. I mention sad too, because he responds by saying "nobody wanted me", when he was asked if he was married. The last thing I mentioned was being real because this story talks about how technology takes over all and that to me seems like it can legit happen. Living in a society like todays' make me so sad knowing we as a world aren't headed the right direction. (if that makes sense) All people care about now is getting likes, being good-looking, and following trends. It is just a shame. The main character, Leonard Mead is a man who seems to love keeping traditions alive. Leonard is the only person in the whole place who acts human. His character does not change through out the whole story, so he is for sure not a developing character. He is also a thoughtful person wouldn't want to wake up the neighborhood dogs, and he really loves nature for what it is. The "Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury is a story with multiple emotions. It also gives you a possible sneak peak into our future if we keep doing what we are doing. Stories like these are way ahead of their time and they teach the audience another lesson on how using the write words can maniplate feelings, so basically how powerful our words can be.
ANATOMY OF A PERSUASIVE ARGUEMENT
my class decides (class notes) :
- have fun
- avoid taking
- maintain connection
- encourage people to talk amongst themselves
- stay with the topic
- set a good examples
- value other's perpectives
- be fair
- listen
- welcome others
- accept everyone
Ethos, Pathos, Logos, and Kairos can help win in any conversation if you know how to use this wisely. In an example of getting something you want from your parents is by stating your claim, reason, with empathy and appropriate tone and structure.
ANCIENT RHETORIC IN MODERN TIMES
The elements of ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos I notice in The Ethical Challenges Self-Driving Cars Will Face Everyday that jump out at me are :
ETHOS: The author, Johannes Himmelreich talks to us in a way we can understand, from this I understood that philosophers have to answer difficult questions by his tone expressed in the text.
PATHOS: From this article, the main focusis that self-driving cars are the better way to go nowadays because humans are not the best drivers, also in the future if self-driving cars succeed things like trafic lights will be a thing of the past.
LOGOS: The message of the article is that self-driving cars are improving to drive much safer than humans. These cars have much more trouble with certain things than human, that's known as Moravec's Paradox.
KAIROS: Self-driving cars are the perfect thing to talk about now because technology advances everyday, why wouldn't self-driving cars exist nowadays. ( I kind of don't understand kairos)
These elements make the article and the arguements within it more effective because it easier to understand the beliefs and the overall message the author wanted to give us, and thats the struggles of self-driving cars. If any elements took away from the arguements it would maybe have to be kairos, I honestly don't see it and understand it.

SO THIS GUY GOES FOR A WALK
I would have to say that Ray Bradbury wrote "The Pedestrian" to show how basically modern technology can effect the future, with techonology people lack imagination. I found it sad in a way because nowadays I see people glued to their phone, even me. :( I literally feel like having a panic attack if I don't have my phone in my pocket and I forget that I didn't bring it. It super sad how this is a real sneak peak in the future. The character Leonard Mead is a person who enjoys the simple things in life, you know what I mean? He never misses a nightly walk to enjoy the fresh air. Mead is a person who wouldn't really follow today's trend, he loves life for what it is, it is like his bringing the past back. Someting else is that he seems to be the only person who is actually "living", I say this because Leonard never ever saw anyone else on his evening walks.
LITERATURE ANALYSIS #2
( same book )
- What drew me to this book was honestly just the title. To me "A Girl Named Disaster" was really grabbing, if that makes sense. I was honestly expecting to experience the life of a girl finding out her purpose in life, and in a way I did. (:
- What kept me reading through the first ten pages was my dead phone, but the book is good, I like it.
- My reading habits are weird, I love reading BOOKS I LIKE OR INTERESTED IN. Otherwise, I get bored fast and I tend to lose my place most times. When I read, it is a calm quiet experience where I can get lost in the book, I CAN'T read in loud places. I don't think anyone can focus when it is loud.

STORY OF MY LIFE
If I had to chose an event in my life for a short story, it would be my transition from 6th grade to 7th grade. It was all BS (excuse my language), I would officialy name 2015-2016 one of the worst years in my life. On the other hand I am grateful for making new friends. 7th grade was full of dumb drama and a lot of sadness lol. That short would basically be about a sad girl who's life changed for the better. That is the main idea of my short story, haters will always hate so whocares about them and things do get better.

THE ART OF HOSTING GOOD CONVERSATIONS ONLINE
The Art of Hosting Good Conversations Online was mainly about key pointers on how to be a good host in large functions of people whether is on or offline. In this article, there was different types of topics like good online discussions, a host is..., what a host does, what a host tries to grow, and host behavior. Some pointers that stuck with is me a host should have as few rules as possible, keep track of keeps your functions alive, make sure your new friends get help fitting in with your old friends, bring topics that people liked and not the boring ones no one liked, and encourage people to participate in the conversation and such.
- Aikido- One ounce of elegance and grace is worth ten pounds of argument. You can charm or seduce discussions back on topic, and conflicts away from the brink of brawl, but you can't force them.

THE VALUE OF MY TIME
I would have to say that the time investments I am making today that will help in the future is, currently doing my work on time in every class so I can get good grades, another thing I am trying do is more volunteer work, not because I have to and it looks good on a resume, but because I geniunely want to have different experiences in my life. My first official volunteer is this weekend at the central coast airfest show. Anywho, time investments I am making now to help reach my future goals in life is participating in extracurricular activities, I am planning to go straight to college after highschool, so anything that will help me get scholarships is the plan. I am shy, so it is hard to fully participate like jump in conversations and make suggestions but I am practicing. My main goal in my life is to help others and be independent, I want to contribute on making the world a better place. ☺️

↳ we only fear what we don't understand ..

HAWTORNE & POE ON DREAMS
The author uses the idea of dreaming to make us think about what's real so we can in some way feel and comprehend how the situation unfolds. In both, Young Good Brown and Dream within a dream, we understand that what we feel and possibly witness could be real or just a figment of our imagination. Although, in Young Goodman Brown the setting can already set the mood for scary things such as spending time with the devil. The elements I see in both pieces are to remind the audience not everything is what it is, but they are both different because they both have different main points of their story.
